Propers for Sunday June 8 - OS 10

Collect:
God of wisdom and love,
source of all good,
send your Spirit to teach us your truth
and guide our actions
in your way of peace.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

1st lesson:  Hosea 5:15-6:6

5:15 I will go and return to my place,
      until they acknowledge their offense,
      And seek my face.
In their affliction they will seek me earnestly."

6:1 "Come, and let us return to Yahweh;
For he has torn us to pieces,
And he will heal us; He has injured us,
And he will bind up our wounds.

6:2 After two days will he revive us.
On the third day he will raise us up,
And we will live before him.

6:3 Let us acknowledge Yahweh.
Let us press on to know Yahweh.  As surely as the sun rises,
Yahweh will appear.  He will come to us like the rain,
Like the spring rain that waters the earth."

6:4 "Ephraim, what shall I do to you?

Judah, what shall I do to you?
For your love is like a morning cloud,
And like the dew that disappears early.

6:5 Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets;
I killed them with the words of my mouth.
Your judgments are like a flash of lightning.

6:6 For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice;
      And the knowledge of
God more than burnt offerings.

Psalm 50: 7-15

2nd lesson:  Rom 4:13-25

For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law, but through the righteousness produced by faith. For if those who were given the law are the heirs, then faith is useless and the promise is worthless, for the law brings about wrath. Now where there is no law, neither can there be any violation of it. Therefore, the promise is based on faith, so that it may be a matter of grace and may be guaranteed for all his descendants-not only for those who were given the law, but also for those who share Abraham's faith, who is the father of us all. As it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations." Abraham acted in faith when he stood in God's presence, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that don't even exist. Hoping in spite of hopeless circumstances, he believed that he would become "the father of many nations," just as he had been told: "This is how many descendants you will have." He did not weaken in faith when he thought about his own body (which was already as good as dead now that he was about a hundred years old) or about Sarah's inability to have children, nor did he doubt God's promise out of a lack of faith. Instead, he became strong in faith and gave glory to God, being absolutely convinced that God would do what he had promised. This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness." Now the words "it was credited to him" were written not only for him but also for us. Our faith will be regarded in the same way, if we believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to death because of our sins and was raised to life because of our justification.

(Romans 4:13-25)

Alleluia......The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, and to proclaim liberty to captives   Alleluia

Gospel: Matthew 9:9 - 13 ©

As Jesus was walking on from there he saw a man named Matthew sitting by the customs house, and he said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed him.

While he was at dinner in the house it happened that a number of tax collectors and sinners came to sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, ‘Why does your master eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ When he heard this he replied, ‘It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. Go and learn the meaning of the words: What I want is mercy, not sacrifice. And indeed I did not come to call the virtuous, but sinners.’

Prayer over the Gifts:
Lord,
look with love on our service.
Accept the gifts we bring
and help us grow in Christian love.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Preface:

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,
we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Out of love for sinful man,
he humbled himself to be born of the Virgin.

By suffering on the cross
he freed us from unending death,
and by rising from the dead
he gave us eternal life.

And so with all the choirs of angels in heaven
we proclaim your glory
and join in their unending hymn of praise:

  Holy, holy, holy Lord...

Communion Antiphon:
God is love, and whoever lives in love, lives in God, and God in them.

Prayer after Communion:
Lord,
may your healing love
turn us from sin
and keep us on the way that leads to you.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
